Music Meme, by order of Current Musical Twin @ 07:35 pm

temper: complacent
soundtrack: I am the Resurrection - The Stone Roses

Hmm, I never have news posts anymore... do I have news? Not really. I'm graduating officially this weekend (at least I will be if the information about where to get the gown and hood turns up), so that'll be fun. My grandmother is not doing well at all, which is not so fun, but doesn't really have anything much that can be done about it, so yeah.

Moving on, with a meme that I'd say I'd ganked from [info]quenya_tattoo, only she told me to do it, so I don't know what that counts as.

List your top ten artists and answer the following questions about them.

Top 10:
1. Gomez
2. The Black Keys
3. Pulp
4. Beck
5. Arctic Monkeys
6. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
7. Manic Street Preachers
8. Dave Dobbyn
9. The Rolling Stones
10. Ray LaMontagne

01. First song you heard by 6?
Love Burns or White Palms - not sure which, since [info]quenya_tattoo sent them to me together.

02. Favourite album of 2?
Rubber Factory - one of my all-time favourite albums all told.

03. Favourite lyric that 5 has sung?
How can I choose?? Although I think maybe 'I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck - or I did last time I checked' comes in pretty near the top.

04. Times you've seen 4 live?
Big fat stinking zero. But I will change that, oh yes (why the hell else am I going to the States if not to see my favourite bands?)

05. Favourite song by 7?
Right at the moment, Imperial Bodybags. Over the whole spectrum of the time I've listened to them, A Design for Life.

06. Good memory you have considering the music of 10?
Amazingly nice helpful (and cute!) neuro student at Columbia looks an awful lot like RLM, does that count?

07. A song by 3 that makes you sad?

Underwear. Issues of 1999 ended up tied up in that song, via some writing. Still an awesome song though.

08. Favourite lyric that 2 has sung?
"What about the night makes you change? Oh from sweet... to deranged.." They're not usually much for lyrics, but that one was just too cool.

09. Favourite song by 9?

Torn and Frayed.

10. How did you get into 3?
it must have been 1997 when we had British MTV here, and Common People was shown a few times. Add in Disco 2000, and I was set. Got two copies of the CD for my birthday a year later, actually!

11. First song you heard by 1?
Get Myself Arrested - on my sister's A-V mix in 2000. Didn't really think much of it one way or the other at the time...

12. Favourite song by 4?
Girl

13. Times you've seen 9 live?
Never, and I don't really plan to, in this case. I'd feel too young.

14. Good memory concerning 2?
Creating the PB playlist with Cad27 - he sent me I Cry Alone as part of the massive amounts of music sharing and discussions of characters (or some bullshit like that) that went into it.

15. Song of 8 that makes you sad?

One Proud Minute, I guess, although it's one of those songs that makes you feel goodish about being sad.

16. Favourite album of 5?
Arrrrggh, don't make me pick! Probably Favourite Worst Nightmare, on balance - better musicianship and generally more cohesive, as an album. But... yeah. That's splitting some serious hairs.

17. Favourite lyric 3 has sung?
Whee! Another tough one! "Is this the way they say the future's meant to feel? Or just 20000 people standing in a field.." Although I'm also very partial to 'And I know you're going to let him bore your pants off again..."

18. Favourite song of 1?
Get Miles, currently, although this can change, and is only ever by the merest of hairs. They're almost all so very good anyway!

19. Favourite song of 10?

You Can Bring Me Flowers, I think - it's a bit more blues-rocky than the rest of his stuff (because I don't have a thing at all... no). But Can I Stay is close up there too - that's the most gorgeous vocal.

20. Times you've seen 8 live?
Yay, finally hit the one of these that I HAVE seen. Once, but still - at a rugby game, I'm pretty sure. Can't think when, but I was drunk, so... yeah. Late 90s.

21. Favourite album of 1?

Bring It On, because it is my favourite album in the whole world. And that hasn't changed in quite a few years now.

22. Great memory concerning 9?

Hmmm... shinyhair, Sticky Fingers, and gummi bear tribal war councils. If that doesn't make sense to you... then you weren't there, and the story is too long to repeat. But it's awesome.

I went with what I think of as my favourites (right now today, deciding over about five minutes), rather than last.fm stats or anything. Just because I wanted to have the Black Keys in there. And then I wanted RLM and Dave... so yeah. Whatcha gonna do?

And shout out for the Stone Roses, who only just missed out!

Good Gomez song. I'm tempted to do this for bands that are my favourite as well as my last.fm type ones, because they will be different.

Also, we totally need to make more playlists. That was awesome.

YAAAAY!!! I was wondering where Dave Dobbyn would be-- my first real (and decidedly good) experience with genuine Kiwi love. Now I need to go and get that CD out of the car and rip it again...

Rubber Factory - one of my all-time favourite albums all told.
Actually, based on that album alone I would rank them very very highly. For some reason the others don't spark AS much with me (granted the only other one I have in full is Magic Potion, so maybe I'm just missing key tracks from the old ones.) But that one is the shit. (Also, I didn't know they were from Akron till like last month. WTF, I used to go there all the time! That place is shit! It's like 30 minutes from Cleveland.)

Girl!!! I think that's mine too. How scary are we?

Hmmm... shinyhair, Sticky Fingers, and gummi bear tribal war councils.
Fuck yes. I just re-bought Sticky Fingers (finally-- I sold my copy what? Four years ago?) and all I could think of was the gummi bear tribal war council. Hee shinyhair! (Soon to be revisited and... well pillaged. But yes.)

We are getting a bit twinny lately. I mean more than usual. Ah well, musical twins need love too.

Yeah Dave! Sadly he hasn't been quite as good since he gave up alcohol and Found Religion, but he'll still be awesome forever, just for that album. Well, that album and Bliss (key lyric: 'Drink yourself a beer - forget about the last one, drink yourself another).

Rubber Factory is definitely a step above Magic Potion, and a big couple of steps above Thickfreakness (the one before it). Not sure why, exactly - just a bit more generally rocking, maybe. But yeah. The other albums are good, but RF is Wow Amazing.

If you want Katey, I can steal my mother's copy of Thickfreakness for you, since thats where I originally got mine. I think she's got the other older one but I don't know where.
